I’m starting a new project in 2019. It’s the Spiral Thought Podcast, presenting contemporary poetry, spoken word, and interviews on a variety of themes and topics. Anyone interested in participating can reach me at spiralthought@gmail.com. Put podcast in your subject line (because I also have a small literary magazine that I’m in the process of resurrecting); include a brief bio (and a picture, if you like). Now for the trickier part: you can also include audio files of you reading several poems or a short story aloud. You can record them into the voice memo feature of your cellphone, or use Sound Recorder in your computer (some of you may have better audio software than that). Attach these files to your email message as well. I’m working on the first episode now, and plan to post it in early to mid January, 2019, and I’ll be sending out announcements about where to find it as soon as it’s posted. Thanks!
Wishing you all happy holidays, and the best for the New Year!

possible rain on September 20
We may have another rainy day on September 20 (thanks to Hurricane Jose). I'm hoping it all blows over by noon that day - but I'm going to wait until about noon that day to see what happens. Check back here for updates and hope for the best!

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CALL FOR PERFORMERS
Spiral Thought is launching a new reading series this fall at 6/15 Green, a community garden located at the corner of 6th Avenue and 15th Street in South Park Slope. Admission will be free, and the events will be open to the public.
The reading dates are September 20 (featuring Joshua Meander), October 4, and October 18 (featuring Gabriel Levicky); these are all Wednesday evenings, and the readings start at 6 pm.
We're recruiting poets, prose writers and acoustic musicians to perform in this lush urban oasis; the garden is one of the largest in the area, and features seating, tables and a privy.
Anyone interested in performing should send a sample of their writing or music to spiralthought@gmail.com, or provide a link to a site where samples can be seen or heard. There is no financial remuneration available for performers at this time, but passing the hat is encouraged.
The neighborhood has a wide variety of places to pick up refreshments to enjoy al fresco at the garden.
6/15 Green is easily accessible by mass transit using the F train (7th Avenue or 15th Street stations), the R train (Prospect Avenue - which is currently being renovated, but the work should be finished this fall), and the 68, 63, and 61 buses. 6/15 Green is a 501 ©) 3 organization. Please visit the website for more information: www.615green.org.

An American Icon: Dave Amram at Theater for the New City, May 25, 2014
(Click on the title above to see a 25 minute performance.) A few years ago I was at one of TNC's community arts festivals, and Dave Amram was on the bill. I hadn't seen him perform in over a decade, and it was great to touch bases again. He has a copy of this as well, and I got an effusive thanks for passing it on. Crystal Fields' introduction says it all.
Part of the reason I'm sharing this is because I'd like to start doing more audio/visual work with the magazine and performances. The video quality in this piece is not great, but the sound is pretty decent. This was shot on a little Sony Cybershot I've had for about 10 years. There are higher quality video settings on the camera, but the higher the image quality, the shorter the clips created. Now that I have a laptop, though, there are additional possibilities.

Issue 5
The last issue (#5) of the printed magazine was published in the winter of 1999. Here's a link to a very lightly revised pdf version: Issue 5.
It was a great issue, and I hope you like it - it's a good example of what we were doing almost 10 years ago.
Meanwhile, I'm continuing to tinker with the formatting for this blog; please be patient while it's under construction.
